Driftscape: A Mobile, Self-Sustaining Hospitality Concept

Driftscape, a hospitality concept designed by HOK’s Toronto studio, earned the grand prize in the annual Radical Innovation Award competition. Through the use of drone technology, Driftscape allows guests to roam or touch down in diverse locations that were previously unattainable at traditional hotels. Inspired by the fundamental human urge to wander, Driftscape hotels are made up of several modular glass units for ease of construction and mobility.

The technology required to make Driftscape a reality already exists and is expected to be available for commercial use in the near future. Though challenges regarding regulatory restrictions that govern air space are expected, rigorous testing and safety features that eliminate operational errors should help allay concerns and pave the way for widespread use.
