Thomas Bayer FAIA, NCARB, LEED AP

Technical Principal

Based out of HOK’s Houston studio, Thomas leads the technical direction and development of projects throughout Texas and the U.S. Gulf Coast, overseeing technical production, content, quality assurance and construction phase services. His work spans all building types and scales, from complex mixed-use developments to public facilities and sports venues.

A senior principal with more than 30 years of professional experience, Thomas is an expert in building science and project delivery. As co-chair of HOK’s firmwide Technical Board, he pioneered a standardized quality management system and leads bi-weekly project audit meetings across HOK’s 10 largest North American offices. He also plays a key role in the Design and Construction Excellence Exchange (DCX), developing tools to enhance transparency and cooperation across disciplines.

Thomas has made significant contributions to architectural education and mentoring. He serves on the board of the Houston ACE Mentor program and has built lasting relationships with students and faculty at Prairie View A&M University. He also taught building science as an adjunct professor in Texas Tech University’s Remote Master Program. His commitment to mentoring has helped more than 1,000 students and 160 mentors in underserved communities.
