The Woltosz Football Performance Center is the largest athletics project in Auburn’s history and now serves as the home of Auburn football. This $92 million facility, sprawled across 12 acres, features 226,000 square feet of space designed to foster an elite environment for the development of both players and coaches.
Drawing inspiration from the Auburn University Creed—which endorses a sound mind and body, fearlessness and sportsmanship—the complex offers unrivaled amenities. These unique features position Auburn to attract exceptional student-athletes, coaches and staff.
Reflecting Auburn’s traditional architectural style, the center features a state-of-the-art indoor practice facility and two adjacent outdoor practice fields.
The Creel Family Player Development Lab, which spans an impressive 25,000 square feet, is equipped with advanced strength and conditioning equipment to help athletes reach their full potential.
The facility houses an equipment innovation lab, a helmet studio, and offices and meeting spaces for coaches and staff. The athletic training and sports medicine spaces feature industry-leading advancements, an indoor rehabilitation turf and hydrotherapy pools. Catering to the holistic needs of student-athletes, the center also includes a family lounge, academic amenities, a nutrition hub and a versatile 7,500-square-foot multipurpose room.
Taking design cues from the Sugar Huddle’s round formation, the spacious team locker room and lounge are column-free, featuring central video boards for gaming, announcements and leisure. Ceiling acoustical feathers evoke the Auburn War Eagle, while a central lighting fixture pays homage to the tradition of rolling Toomer’s Corner. Private relaxation spaces for each player and a barber shop add to the facility’s luxury. Adjacent to the locker room, the design team incorporated The Armory, where gear is distributed, stored and put on before practice. The space is adjacent to the loading dock, creating ease for equipment managers, and allows the main player space to be clean and relaxing.
An innovative indoor turf classroom complements team meeting rooms, providing flexibility for different learning styles and future expansion potential.
HOK, in association with GMC, designed the center to enhance the student-athlete experience by prioritizing athletes’ physical and mental well-being, both on and off the field. As an embodiment of Auburn’s commitment to sustainability and health, the facility aims to achieve LEED Silver and Fitwel certification.
