How can one workplace satisfy multiple brands? HOK’s design transformed the landmark central London headquarters building of leading publishing company Hachette UK into a contemporary workspace, bringing together seven publishing divisions under one roof.
The plan enables each division to maintain its own identity while promoting company-wide collaboration and a sense of community. Using ‘the family’ as a metaphor for publishing divisions, the design draws on inspiration from a classic home to create dedicated and shared spaces. Each ‘family member’ has its own designated areas, such as meeting rooms and arrival points that reflect the division’s brand.
A pavilion café on the sixth floor celebrates the building’s outdoor space, extending through large glass doors to a 7,600-sq.-ft. landscaped rooftop terrace complete with flowerbeds, grass areas and sweeping views of the London skyline.
Shared spaces include the reception, non-dedicated meeting spaces, a kitchen and breakout rooms.
