HERE Technologies Space and Occupancy Planning

HERE Technologies provides map data, technologies and services to the automotive community. Our work with the company started when a consortium of German car manufacturers—Audi, BMW and Daimler—acquired them from Nokia.

The first challenge was to establish a space management team and structure. HOK placed senior planners on-site at HERE buildings in Berlin and Chicago. Our planners developed workplace standards, tools and processes that enabled a consistent global approach to managing its space.

The second challenge was keeping pace with the newly independent company’s significant organic and acquisitive growth. HOK’s team was responsible for maintaining accurate space and occupancy data to support short- and long-term planning. Our planners collaborated with HERE’s business units to manage daily headcount changes, creating solutions to accommodate all resources on-site on an interim basis.

HOK’s on-site planners also worked with HERE’s real estate leaders to develop a consolidation strategy and to implement a Smart Work program across existing and new sites. As a result, HERE was able to accommodate more people in less space.
