Milliken Flooring’s San Francisco showroom acts as both a living lab and a hub for the Bay Area’s design community. The space, which accommodates up to 100 people, is one of North America’s first WELL v2 Platinum-certified projects.
The showroom includes a conference room, a quiet room and a café for entertaining guests and hosting events.
With its high ceilings, open-plan layout and elongated floor plate, the showroom is a long, flowing gallery broken into distinct ‘vignettes’ that highlight either a specific product family or Milliken’s history. These niches provide intimate spaces for small group meetings.
Concrete columns and ceilings showcase a selection of Milliken products that stand out on the walls. The floor’s hard-surface concrete and interchangeable carpeting feature the company’s products.
Strategies that enhance people’s health and well-being include:
- Integrating daylight and electric lighting systems to help regulate circadian rhythms.
- Using MERV 13 and carbon filters, low-emitting materials, and ongoing carbon dioxide and particulate matter monitoring to ensure good indoor air quality.
- Providing views from the showroom to the nearby Pioneer Park and Coit Tower.
- Using imagery and organic patterns from nature to connect people to the world around them.
- Customizing specialty baffles and finishes to allow for acoustic comfort.
- Providing easy access to pedestrian and bike trails along the San Francisco Bay.
- Hosting weekly yoga classes in the showroom.
