Designed to enhance classroom and game performance, the new Whitney Athletic Center provides physical training, well-being and academic support to all University of Delaware student-athletes.
The building will serve as the new front door to the university’s athletic campus and as a bridge linking the fieldhouse to the basketball arena.
A Student Success Center within the facility provides much-needed study space adjacent to student-athlete training facilities. The building also includes a 10,000-sq.-ft. strength and conditioning area, a large training room, sports medicine facilities, a kitchen and nutritional education space, an auditorium, and several multipurpose areas.
The interior design celebrates the history and spirit of the Fightin’ Blue Hens with bold graphics and the school’s blue and gold colors juxtaposed against neutral finishes.
The Center is being built into the west side of the existing Delaware Stadium, which also is being renovated as part of this project. Stadium upgrades during this first phase include new Stadium Club space, an enhanced press box with coaches’ booths, upgraded concessions and restrooms, and new chair backs.
