This project breathed new life into Husky Stadium. With its views of the Cascade Mountains and location along picturesque Lake Washington, the iconic venue is known as one of America’s best settings for college football.
Demolishing and reconstructing the stadium’s lower bowl and south-side stands brought fans closer to the action. By preserving the venue’s metal roofs, the design ensures that the stadium remains one of the nation’s loudest. New premium seating, concessions and technology infrastructure modernize the environment. A connected football operations building streamlines the student-athlete experience.
In addition to responding to constraints created by the urban, lakeside site, the design connects the stadium to the new Sound Transit station and incorporates a 200-stall parking garage under the south bowl.
A new retail shop and the University of Washington Sports Medicine Center promote year-round activity within the building.
Another of the university’s goals was for the renovated stadium to advance the sustainable design of sports venues. The design looked past the basics of water and energy conservation to also enhance infrastructure, reduce the building’s impact on the environment and provide a platform that has allowed UW to promote sustainability.
